How to Travel?
Some of these places may be further out in other regions of Japan, but remember, traveling is very convenient, especially if you take public transport in Japan, such as trains.
There are various commuter trains, including the high-speed bullet trains, known as shinkansen in Japanese, and others, including Local, Express, Semi-Express, Rapid, and Limited Express trains, which are very comfortable.
I prefer trains over cars, especially when traveling with kids or in groups. With trains, there’s no traffic to contend with.
I’ve been on car journeys where what should have been a 2-hour drive became a 5-hour ordeal due to traffic jams. And the worst part? There were no restroom breaks if you were stuck in a traffic jam! It’s maddening when traffic is so stagnant you could set up a barbecue on the roadside to keep busy!
However, if you are visiting rural areas and small towns in Japan, the lack of efficient public transport may make rental cars a better option.
